OUR CUSTOMERS LOVE SIDETRAK: "This was the perfect solution! Easy to install, outstanding display quality, and it weighs practically nothing. I work from my laptop all day, and this has made a huge difference. Portable, durable, and a true extension of my laptop screen. Would recommend to anyone who spends enormous hours on their laptop right now. Worth the investment." - Bobbi J.
I bought this in mind for working on the go. If this is what you want it for, I suggest you do not purchase it. If you want to work from a desk at a hotel, or some other office/location but on a desk, table or a flat surface then go for it!It is not very sturdy. Like at all.I tried using it on the road from my lap desk, but it kept flickering. (as the passenger obviously) I would have to disconnect and reconnect. If it was a bumpy road, it would fall off. One of those times, it bent the cable piece that attaches to the monitor so I have already had to replace it.I tried using it from my lap on my couch (or any couch) and anytime I go to set it down (off my lap) the screen will fall off. Haha I just moved my legs and it fell off as I tried to type this review! Didn't even try to set it down. Which brings me to my next point, sometimes when it disconnects from falling off or what have you, it takes several tries of unplugging, plugging back in, and jiggling the cord to get the screen to come back on.However, when I use it from a desk, where it does not get moved at all - it works just fine.If I could figure out a way to make this sturdier, I would absolutely recommend this 100%. I have done some research on how to rig it, but haven't been able to find a non permanent solution. I don't always work away from my home office and don't want it to be permanently attached to my laptop.I hope this review helps!***********************************************************************************I experienced some trouble with the monitor powering on, but no screen displaying. I reached out to the seller and they sent me a shipping label to return it and upon receipt they sent me a free replacement! That is what I call excellent customer service. I will be shopping from them again!!So, while I still think the device is too fragile for use if it’s going to break in less than 20 issues, I am super impressed by their customer service shipping me a new device after I explained how little I had used it. Excellent company!I don't use this device often, but when I need it, I REALLY NEED IT. And it died in less than 30 uses (probably less than 20). I'm furious that I put this much into it thinking it would last longer than the Acer portable monitor I used for 3 years much more frequently until it died. This is TERRIBLE. I've owned it JUST over a year (so outside of any warranty, I'm sure) and it's just kaput.Love how flexible it is to use. But it will not stay locked in place. When it’s open, it slips in the lower left hinge making the monitor tilt. I have to put a pen in between the monitor and frame to keep it from slipping.UPDATING 3/8/21 AFTER 2/2021 BELOW - STILL NO RESPONSE FROM SUPPORTI LOVE this device. I work from home but on times when I'm in the office, having dual monitors will be fantastic. Also, with my freestanding dual monitors and laptop monitor, this gives me four working screens on my desk. The setup was very easy, and after a few minutes, it was working great. Now the less than perfect stuff. Tech support was an answering machine. There's no email address, there's no chat. Both are shown on the card that came in the box, but no email and no chat on their website. No one answers the phone line during business hours. So hope it works or you're out of luck. Second, why I was calling ... my monitor starting blanking in and out 3-4 times a minute. Sometimes it would take all my monitors down and sometimes just the SideTrak would go down. It was annoying. The instructions said the driver needed 2 minutes and it was much longer so I called. After about 10 minutes, the issue resolved itself. Maybe if I ever get that tech support callback, I can let them know. And lastly, the screen is clear, but it's not bright and there's no way to adjust it. If you go through Windows and try, the laptop monitor gets dim/bright, but the SideTrak doesn't change. So as much as I love this, it could be even better.Let me tell you. I loved this monitor. Love love, we were official. However 6-8 months in it started having connectivity issues. Obviously I thought it was me. I spent hours trying to fix and troubleshoot, and when I finally gave up and reported it to SideTrak, they replace it with no issue (except I had to send it in before they would send a new one, so I was without it for about 1.5 weeks). New love working fine but after 4 months a part in the slide fell out preventing the screen to fully slide back into place. Again, Customer Service was great and they replaced the whole unit. But NOW I've had the replacement of the replacement for 4 months and it is failing again, just like the 1st one. Now I know it's them not me. I'm just super disappointed because I frigging love this thing and can't work without it, but also can't work with it. Maybe the other versions are better, but sadly I feel like I have to report the issues and frustrations with this particular unit.If your laptop monitor is tilted back even slightly, when you stand up the magnets aren't strong enough to hold it and it falls on the floor. This happened a few times the first day I had it, but then I learned to hold onto the frame every time I moved. On my fourth day it stopped working. It kept connecting and disconnecting repeatedly. I think the usb plug simply can't take the stress of the weight of the write, or perhaps it is the movement of the monitor sliding in and out.Too many problems. Sending it back.Ended up getting two of these. The first one arrived damaged and so had to be sent back. The second one arrived with a damaged cable but that was an easy fix. A week later however, it would lock my laptop when attached. Keyboard would become unusable and both screens would go black. Was not able to turn on laptop when screen was attached. SideTrak customer service are absolutely terrible with one email a week if lucky. Distributer however was great to talk to. Quick responses and acted quickly. The screen itself was great when it worked but just too many issues and really only lasted a week. There are a lot of reviews that do not share my experiences and so I would still recommend this.Been a dual screen user in work and at home for several years and could not ever go back to one. Issue has always been when going to meetings, remote offices and clients etc you cant lift your two screens, dock etc and take with you. Well, you can i suppose but its a lot to lug around. With this you maintain your productivity on the go. Super piece of tech! It's a fantastic product but the screen could be brighter. That won't ever affect me since I'll never use it outside but it's still a tiny issue. It's light enough for the magnets to stay on your laptop even when you're not on a desk (maybe on your lap)Love this screen. For windows 10 you do need a shorter cable for better power transfer from the laptop. Makes WFH very productive and still having the flexibility to move from room to room with ease
